Friday Fun: Bicycle Rush Hour in the Netherlands

There is nothing fun about rush hour, unless bicycles are involved. Here are two videos of rush hour from Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. The first one is from 2011 and the second is from 2010. Netherlands is infamous for its biking culture, where 85 percent of the population owns at least one bicycle.  In fact, there are more bicycles than inhabitants in the Netherlands: 16 million bikes, to be exact. Furthermore, 1.3 million bikes are sold each year.

I notice that there are almost no helmuts or racing bicycles (like here). These are touring bikes that one sits upright on and move sedately, not rushing as fast as possible.
