The intern will work with the EMBARQ Marketing and Communications team in EMBARQ’s Washington, DC office. Overview

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s program for sustainable urban transport and urban planning, is seeking a creative professional to assist our Communications and Marketing Manager in generating content for TheCityFix.com blog and EMBARQ.org news section, as well as the EMBARQ Network News monthly newsletter. This internship is ideal for recent graduates or students in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental science, English, liberal arts, or related studies. You will get real world experience in a fast-paced environment. Internships may vary in length depending on your schedule, interest, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • 70% Write, edit, and publish online

  • 15% Research news stories, blogs, on new initiatives and trends, interact with and assist EMBARQ experts in promoting their work

  • 10% Email marketing

  • 5% Organize content on websites, databases, social media

Qualifications

  • College student or recent graduate with a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental science, English, liberal arts, or related studies.

  • Preference given to candidates with interest in sustainability marketing and communications.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Expert knowledge of MS Word

  • Taste for graphic design

  • Extremely well organized

  • Research ability

  • Ability to learn new technologies and online platforms for publishing quickly

Preferred skills and experience

  • Experience with Drupal 7, WordPress, and Vertical Response

  • Knowledge of photo editing software

  • Experience in developing marketing materials, working with videos, podcasting, blogs, web content management, graphics and email systems

  • Basic knowledge of HTML

Salary

Commensurate with education, experience and position responsibilities.

This position is based in the Washington, DC office of the EMBARQ Network and reports to EMBARQ’s Communications and Marketing Manager.
