The European Road Safety Charter (ERSC), an EU Commission Initiative program, is holding a contest for road safety bloggers. According to the World Health Organization road accidents are the leading cause of death for 15 to 19 year olds globally and will soon constitute the 5th highest cause of death for all ages, resulting in 2.4 million lives lost annually. In this light, European Union citizens from the ages of 18 to 29 are encouraged to submit blogposts to the ERSC that motivate EU youth to act out for road safety.
The winning blogger will receive €1000 and roundtrip airfare to Barcelona, where they will hold a month long position as Road Safety Blogger for the ERSC! The guidelines for the post, noted at the bottom of the official submission site, encourage the use of videos or images along with captivating commentary submitted in any one of the 23 official EU Languages. Submissions will be considered against five criteria: creativity, general quality, web virality, clarity of writing and the relevance of the post to young people on Europe’s road network.
The Road Safety Blogger will be notified before December of 2012. Apply by October 1st to take advantage of this opportunity!
