The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) is accepting projects for its Momentum for Change Initiative through Friday, July, 13 at 12:00 p.m. EST. Projects that address climate change that deliver social and environmental benefits to the urban poor in developing countries are eligible to apply. The project that most closely meets the Initiative’s guidelines will be showcased at the 2012 UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar by the UNFCC Secretariat.
The UNFCC Momentum for Change Initiative was established in 2011 as a result of the Conference of Parties Meeting in Durban, South Africa. Last year the Initiative, co-sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, showcased micro-insurance endeavors in the Horn of Africa, as well as alternative lighting projects in the Philippines. These projects highlighted innovative solutions to mitigate climate change while engaging civil society and the private sector.
