Our good friend and founder of EMBARQ (the producer of this blog), Lee Schipper, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. According to his family and close colleagues, he immediately sought excellent care and underwent chemotherapy treatments. We are calling on TheCityFix community to send their well wishes and support to the man we lovingly call “Mr. Meter.”
Lee has had an extensive and prolific career, and he has influenced the sustainable transport debate in many ways. His friends at Stanford University created a special website to send messages to him while he is under medical care: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/LeonJSchipper.
Thanks, Lee, for your great work and inspiration! We will keep avoiding long motorized trips, shifting travel to your beloved bicycles and buses of the future, and improving fuel economy standards.
If you have some time, check out some of his lectures and learn “the real story on fuel economy.” Here’s a 2009 lecture from the Woods Energy Seminar:
On a lighter note, watch him playing the jazz vibraphone!
