An important announcement from our friends at Next American City, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization and quarterly magazine dedicated to making cities better. They’re hosting the annual Next American Vanguard conference, and offering stipends to young urban leaders to participate in the two-day event to discuss issues related to the built environment, sustainability, community development, and climate change, to name a few.

Next American Vanguard is the only annual conference dedicated to enlightening, inspiring and networking the next generation of urban leaders. For two days in May, this class of leaders will have the opportunity to network with each other, engage with experts in their field, hear from local Philadelphia changemakers and jumpstart their ideas for improving cities. Next American City is grateful for the William Penn Foundation’s support for this year’s conference.

For more information, visit the official Web site. And if you’re passionate about fostering the next “vanguard” of urban leaders, take some time to vote for NAC in the Pepsi Refresh Project. They’re in the running for $25,000 to keep the conference going (and make it even better!)

Also, be sure to check out NAC’s other events around the United States. TheCityFix staff Erica Schlaikjer and Rhys Thom attended URBANEXUS DC in December, and Rhys also presented at NAC’s “Open Cities” event in October.

Also, some exciting news: NAC submitted an idea to the Pepsi Refresh Project, hoping to get a $25,000 grant “to enlighten, inspire and network young urban leaders.” You have until February 28 to vote for the proposal.
