Riding Off Into the Sunset…
Sadly, my stint as TheCityFix’s full-time blogger has come to an end. Writing for the site has been a fantastic experience for many reasons. I had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics, from what a performance-based transportation funding system might look like in the U.S. to how active transportation should be included in Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign to India’s auto rickshaw sector. I got to engage with transportation experts from around the world, including the director at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, one of the planners of Transantiago and a renowned expert on Indian transportation issues. We launched our weekly news round-up, TheCityFix Picks, and I was able to take an in-depth look at how the recession is impacting transportation systems and users in my Moving through the Recession series.Most of all, I have been inspired and motivated by the innovation taking place in the transportation and urban planning fields. Each day I’ve worked here, I’ve learned about a new policy, program or technological application that will have concrete impacts on the environment and peoples’ lives. I hope to put some of these great ideas into action in my new job at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Smart Growth Program where I’ll be working on urban and transportation policy at the federal and local levels.
