		<description>In general using the stimulus package in transit is good. It will be very important to use cost-effectiveness as a key element in the decision making process.  Alternatives analysis show that bus based systems are more cost-effective than comparative rail systems, but rail systems remain more popular for the community at large (partially due to lack of knwledge or understanding of high quality Bus Rapid Transit systems).  See for example the current debate on the proposed purple line in Maryland:
According to the alternatives analysis submitted for public comment (http://www.purplelinemd.com/aadeis) BRT is more cost effective and better in GHG than LRT, but
commentators still endorse LRT on the basis of more potential for economic development (see

and there are much more voices in the community in favor of Light Rail (see

Wold the stimulus package result in several high cost, low impact projects?  It will be not only important to foster job creation in the short term, but more sustainable and livable cities, and reduced GHG in the medium and long term.</description>
