		<description>The surprise is in the fact that traffic restrictions are usually considered unpopular in many developed and developing cities.  The case of Beijing is nice in showing that it might not be the case. I am happy to see China growing in many ways and becoming a world leader.</description>

there are hundreds of protests a year for environmental causes, and the only difference between those and the one in Beijing is the level of national support that they are receiving.

China is maturing in many ways, and as someone who has spent the last 7 years working with the development of civil society here, I am confient in saying that this process will only continue.

Civil society is growing stronger on the consumer side, it is growing wiser in how it works with the government, and NGOs are gaining more and more support at all levels as well...
