Overview:
EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Center for Sustainable Transport, is seeking a capacity building expert for its India Program.  The successful candidate will be based in Mumbai, India and will report to Director – India Program (based in Mumbai, India).
 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a five year capacity building strategy for EMBARQ India leveraging strengths and in-house research. The plan should tie to National Capacity building initiative of the Ministry of Urban Development
  • Develop a five year internal learning strategy for EMBARQ India to build capacity of existing and new staff
  • Design, develop and deliver 3-5 training workshops a year, in partnership with technical staff at EMBARQ India
  • Design and organize 3-5 one day conferences a year, In partnership with technical staff at EMBARQ India
  • Co-ordinate and negotiate partnerships and participation of EMBARQ India in national level conferences
  • Co-ordinate and implement capacity building program for internal staff
  • Be responsible for on-boarding and training new staff
  • Participate actively in EMBARQ India’s ambitious and innovative growth strategy
  • Build and maintain strong network and relationships with key institutions, stakeholders and colleagues throughout India

Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years experience, some experience should be in the area of capacity building
  • Degree, in urban planning, architecture, engineering or related fields preferable. Graduate degree (e.g. Master level) in subject field preferable
  • Knowledge, understanding & experience of adult learning styles, learner-centered design principles and educational curriculum design
  • Proven track record to design, deliver and evaluate capacity building strategies and solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and the Internet
  • Capability to learn and use software applications for budgeting, financing, and reporting that are used by EMBARQ and WRI
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi and other Indian regional languages.  Must be fluent in Hindi / possess bilingual fluency in Hindi and English
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Be willing to work in start-up environments, and on projects that have ambiguity
  • Provide conceptual leadership for activities performed by multiple staff

  • Passion for and commitment to sustainable transport, education and capacity building
