Thank you for your comment Dario, and for your video post Eric!

I think Autolib' could become only a niche market, but interesting enough to test on the road the 100%EV, charging infrastructure, and clients behaviors.

A key project on the French market is taking place in Strasbourg by the end of 2009, with Toyota's PHEVs:

Thanks for the link to the great E2 video! There are definitely two sides of the same coin, aren't there? Our resident ridesharing expert will be sharing comments soon. It'll be an interesting discussion.

We look forward with real interest to reading your independent analysis as you mention. There is a lot more to this story than what we see here. Have a look at our short film "From Bikeshare to Carshare" and commentary in WOrld Streets at http://newmobilityagenda.blogspot.com/2009/05/honk-from-bikeshare-to-carshare.html for some useful context on this one.
Sharing electric cars makes sense in the conditions indicated by Mr. Boisseuil: just a component of a very comprehensive multi-modal transport network and with a low-carbon power grid. Nonetheless, the scheme does not address other dimensions of sustainability. Although it is much better than owning and using a private car, it is not clear how it helps in reducing congestion and traffic accidents, or increasing physical activity. Furthermore, its equity considerations are questionable: who is able to afford it, how it helps people with disabilities, the very young and the elderly?
I think car-sharing electric vehicles it is a nice (and visible) measure with small impacts on sustainability, but not another French Revolution. I perceive Paris is doing other great things with larger impact (and lower cost), that deserve more attention: big improvements in the transit network, including rail and BRT; pedestranization of sizeable chunks of the main activity centers, promotion of bike use (including Velib), and transit oriented development. Good for the city of lights! My only concern is that the flashy Autolib' gets more attention than the other measures...
