Google Transit Now With Live Updates

I almost cried the day that Washington, D.C.’s Metro and Google announced that users could use Google Maps to plan their trips on the D.C. area public transit system. Today Google announces even bigger news for all Google Transit users: the addition of live transit data.

Riders using Google Maps on a mobile device or browser can see real-time departure and arrival times at public transit stations. Because Maps uses live data, service alerts and actual departure times are available to users by clicking on a transit station or when planning a trip.

Live transit updates are available starting today. However, the service is currently only available in four U.S. cities and two European cities: Boston, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Madrid and Turin. Google plans to continue to partner with more transit agencies in more cities to provide users with live transit data.
