Yelena is currently serving as Project manager of UNDP-GEF Project “City of Almaty sustainable transport “Almaty, Kazakhstan in an effort to assist the city in coping with the transport-related emissions by promoting the sustainable transport options and implementing demonstration projects. In frame of this project the City Almaty Sustainable Transport Strategy for 2013 – 2023 was elaborated and adopted in 2013 to improve the air quality in Almaty and making it an attractive city to live and work. Now she works closely with municipality, public organizations and engineering companies to increase share of non-motorize transport in Kazakhstan and increase investment in safe cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.
Prior to this, she served in the UNESCO cluster office as key expert in the natural science department and in the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia, where she led the public initiative support program. Yelena has extended experience in design and management of international project in areas sustainable transport, public participation in decision making, organizing public consultation and international conferences in all Central Asia countries.
