A Congestion Charge for Mumbai?

The government of Maharashtra, India is planning to introduce a congestion charge in Mumbai, India’s largest city, to relieve the traffic problems that plague the streets. If the plan goes through, Mumbai will follow in the footsteps of cities like London, Stockholm, and Singapore that have already implemented such a charge.

It would be a very good step for Mumbai to implement congestion chraging, on the other hand the few things to be considered before implementation are

    1. does Mumbai has a public transport(PT) system that can satisfy the new modal shift?
    2. Is the PT in Mumbai considered rideable by the current car users?
    3. Are there other alternative (sustainable and convenient) travel modes?

The benefits of congestion charging are undeniable, while the public at the same time should not feel that they are being taxed.
