About Us
TheCityFix.com is an online resource for sustainable transport news, advocacy and “best practice” solutions from around the world. It boasts a global network of writers and transport specialists, including engineers, entrepreneurs, urban planners and researchers, who explore environmentally and socially responsible ways to make cities better places to live.
Since it launched in 2007, TheCityFix has been cited in media like The New York Times, The Economist, and Salon.com, and The Times of London named it one of the Top 50 Eco Blogs.
The blog is produced by EMBARQ – The World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport, a non-profit organization that works with cities in the developing world to catalyze and help implement sustainable solutions to problems of urban mobility. The EMBARQ Network includes five Centers for Sustainable Transport, located in Mexico, Brazil, India, Turkey and the Andean Region, that work together with local transport authorities to reduce pollution, improve public health, and create safe, accessible and attractive urban public spaces. The EMBARQ Network employs more than 60 experts in fields ranging from architecture to air quality management; geography to journalism; and sociology to civil and transport engineering.
TheCityFix relies on this international community and other volunteers to provide a global, multi-disciplinary perspective to its coverage of local sustainable urban transport. If you would like to contribute, please sign up for a profile on TheCityFix Social, then download our full editorial guide and e-mail your idea or full-length post to Erica Schlaikjer: eschlaikjer@wri.org.
What are some of the interactive features?
- TheCityFix Local – a global network of city blogs, based in Washington, D.C., Mexico City, and Mumbai. We also have our flagship blog, TheCityFix.com, that covers global news and trends.
- TheCityFix Social – an online social networking platform designed especially for people interested in making cities better places to live. Here, you can send messages to friends; create groups devoted to a particular subject, organization or cause; upload and share photos; and invite people to upcoming events.
- SeeClickFix – an online mapping tool, powered by Google Maps. It allows citizens to publicly report a problem in their neighborhood, such as unsafe intersections or inadequate bicycle lanes, by uploading photos, videos and commentary about the issue, and then notifying local officials who have the power to fix it. Residents from any city in the world can go directly to TheCityFix to report their problem on SeeClickFix maps that appear throughout the site.
- Jobs – a customized job board for employers and jobseekers to post opportunities (for free!) related to sustainable transportation and urban planning.
What else?
Users of TheCityFix Social will soon be able to login with their usernames from third-party sites like Facebook and Google. The beta version is currently only available in English, but the interface will soon be available in other languages, including Spanish. (TheCityFix DF – our Mexico City blog – is already available “en Español.”) Stay tuned!
